This past year, matcha has been taking the internet by storm. It seems that people are putting matcha into everything: drinks, cakes, ice cream, and even bread! Matcha is a fantastic type of green tea high in antioxidants, helps you lose weight, promotes better heart health, and boosts your brain functions. If you haven’t jumped on the matcha bandwagon yet, you should try these matcha energy balls and see why everyone is obsessed with the flavor!

These energy balls are perfect when you want a quick snack or dessert but don’t want a heavy and calorie-dense slice of cake. They’re the perfect balance between sweetness and nutrition! This recipe takes about ten minutes to prepare and yields twelve servings, each at 94 calories. One of the best parts about these energy balls is that they store up to seven days in the fridge so that you can enjoy them for several days!

Use your favorite matcha tea powder and protein powder to create the dough. Vanilla protein powder works best, but you can use an unflavored one if that’s what you have on hand. This recipe is ideal for anyone with gluten or nut allergies (although you’re out of luck if you’re allergic to coconut….). Also, desiccated coconut is better than shredded for this recipe since the finely ground pieces mix better.

You can enjoy these energy balls during tea time or as a workout snack for the extra protein. If you make them, let us know in the comments what you thought about the recipe and whether you enjoyed them or not! What other matcha recipes do you love?
